B-Vent Maintenance
Type B gas vents are venting systems used for furnaces and water heaters, most commonly found in homes built from the 1950s to the early 2000s. When installed according to manufacturer instructions and building codes, they are generally low maintenance. However, all visible components should be inspected annually for signs of rust, deterioration, or damage. Over time, B-Vents can also become nesting areas for birds and squirrels. As many homes upgrade to high-efficiency appliances, these systems are gradually becoming obsolete, making proper inspection and maintenance especially important.

Furnace Chimney
Proper venting matters for more than just dryers. We also provide inspection and cleaning services for furnace chimney systems when needed.

Gas Furnace Chimney
Natural gas furnace venting systems should be examined regularly to ensure proper and reliable operation. In most cases, cleaning is not necessary unless there is evidence of buildup caused by a system issue or animal nesting.
When cleaning is required, the process is similar to wood stove chimney cleaning, using professional brush and vacuum equipment to remove deposits efficiently and cleanly.

Wood Furnace Chimney
Wood- and oil-burning furnaces, including combination units that operate on natural gas or propane, should also be inspected on a regular basis.
When a wood-burning unit is used frequently, chimney cleaning may be needed more than once per year to control soot and creosote buildup and maintain proper venting.

Liner Installation
Ash Chimney Sweeps installs chimney liners when replacement or upgrades are required. We regularly assist homeowners and HVAC technicians with liner installations, including difficult liner drops that can be challenging due to chimney height, access, or layout.
Our team works with both residential and service professionals to ensure liners are installed properly and safely.
If you’re unsure whether a liner replacement is needed or are facing a difficult installation, give us a call. We’re happy to discuss your liner needs and explain the best options for your system.

Miscellaneous Repairs
Ash Chimney Sweeps provides reliable chimney repair services to keep your system functional, protected, and operating properly. These may include broken dampers, wood stove flue pipes, fire bricks, and kitchen or dryer vent flaps. Each repair is assessed individually to ensure the right solution for your system.
Under normal operation, cleaning is not required. However, maintenance may be necessary if a heating contractor identifies a malfunction or if animal nesting is present within the vent.
To help prevent rust and extend the system's life, it is recommended that the portion of the B-Vent exposed above the roofline be properly painted. This added protection helps guard against weather-related deterioration over time.

Flue Tile Replacement
The top ceramic flue tile is often exposed to significant stress from poor-quality rain covers bolted directly to it, freeze-thaw cycles, extreme temperature changes, and improper installation. Over time, these factors can cause cracking or deterioration. When damage occurs, the building code requires the flue tile to be replaced.
We remove the damaged flue tile and install a new tile to code. If multiple flue tiles are affected, more extensive repairs may be required, which we will discuss clearly before any work begins.

Crown Sealer
Chimney crowns, also known as drip caps, are designed to direct water away from the chimney's brickwork. As crowns age, they can crack or break down, allowing moisture to penetrate the structure. Repeated freezing and thawing during spring and fall can accelerate this damage.
Applying a professional crown sealer helps prevent water infiltration, allows moisture to bead off the surface, and significantly extends the life of the chimney.
